Introducing ACCESS

Ms. Priscilla Nunn, a native of Anson County, has returned to partner with the community to eliminate poverty and encourage self-sufficiency through a new nonprofit, called ACCESS (Anson County Community Economic Support Services). ACCESS is a faith based non-profit organization that focuses on economic and workforce development and community revitalization.

ACCESS 3 month program, is designed to teach life management, professional development, and job search skills with 12 participants every quarter.

In addition to class participation each team member is expected contribute to the improvement of their neighborhood and the community as a whole. Community projects ACCESS has helped are the Veteran Days event, HOLLA! hosting of the WSSU band, and the cleaning up Old Westview Commentary. Another requirement is the team must support ACCESS by organizing a fundraiser. The group’s fundraising event is a 3 on 3 basketball tournament in partnership with HOLLA! (more info below) on December 31, 2011.

When ask what word would describe ACCESS, Priscilla’s response was possibilities. These possibilities have already been recognized by team members.

Carlos Riley- ” ACCESS provides connections to people and opportunities. The program empowers us to give back to our community by volunteering in the community and making us feel like citizens.

Maurice Little- “ACCESS is giving me the opportunity to give back and the education and job training to be successful.”

The community has been very supportive of the organization by providing financial and in-kind support such as the Effie B Little Foundation (Malsgate, HW Little), HOLLA!, Leavitt Funeral Home, Hugh Wallace, SPCC, United Methodist Church, ON THE MOVE TRANSPORTATION, Church of God and Prophesy of Morven and private citizens.
